6 ways to show your hormones some love

Hormones play an important role in our bodies, influencing everything from our mood and energy levels to our skin and hair health. At FS this year we’re celebrating Valentine's Day by showing some love to our hormones to support their optimal functioning. Here’s how you can too…

Prioritise Sleep

Getting adequate sleep is crucial for hormone health. During sleep, our bodies produce hormones like melatonin, which helps regulate our sleep-wake cycles, and growth hormone, which promotes tissue repair and regeneration. On the other hand, lack of sleep can disrupt the balance of hormones like cortisol, which is involved in stress response and inflammation.

To support your hormone health, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, and create a sleep-conducive environment by keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. No phones after 9pm, if you’re really dedicated!

Eat a Balanced Diet

What we eat can also impact our hormone health. Consuming a balanced diet rich in nutrient-dense foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats can help support optimal hormone functioning. Certain nutrients, such as magnesium, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids, are especially important for hormone health.

Wondering what not to eat? A diet high in processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats can lead to imbalances in hormones like insulin, which is involved in blood sugar regulation.

Move Your Body

Regular movement can have a hugely positive impact on your hormone health. Exercise has been shown to increase the production of hormones like endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce stress, and the growth hormone, which can support muscle growth and repair. It can also help regulate insulin and improve insulin sensitivity, which is important for blood sugar control.

Aim to incorporate at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise into your day, such as brisk walking, cycling, or strength training - whatever feels best for you, is the best form of movement to gravitate to.

Manage Your Stress Levels

Chronic stress can have a real impact on your hormone health, leading to imbalances in hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Which means finding healthy ways to manage stress is important for supporting your hormones, and this can be different for everyone - some of our fave ways of destressing include mindfulness meditation, deep breathing, yoga, spending time in nature.

Practice Self-Care

Taking time out to care for yourself will show your hormones love, as well as your mind and body. Activities like getting a massage, taking a relaxing bath, spending time with loved ones, or indulging in a hobby.

Self-care can help reduce stress levels, improve mood, and promote feelings of well-being, all of which can have a positive impact on your hormones.

The FS Vegan Protein Blend

When we created the FS Vegan Protein Blend, we developed a daily ritual to nourish your body, balance your hormones, regulate your cycle and boost your mood.

Our nutritionist-approved formulation is a blend of 16 vitamins and minerals, including Maca, which has been traditionally used to help regulate female hormonal balance and improve mood; Magnesium, an important nutrient for bone health, which also helps to reduce tiredness and improve mood and psychological function and Iron, to support the female menstrual cycle.

Plus, it’s an extra boost of protein too, which can help your body to stabilise blood glucose, reduce insulin and androgens, keep you feeling fuller for longer and feeling in control of your appetite.

Although showing your hormones some love is a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day, we always recommend loving them, balancing them and embracing them every day - by prioritising sleep, nourishing your body with a balanced diet, movement, managing your stress levels, and practising self-care. Plus, adding the FS Vegan Protein Blend to your daily routine. Your hormones will thank you!
