A nutritionist's guide to hangovers

Tis the season for a hangover, unfortunately. And, although nothing can cure a hangover, we’ve got the top tips to recover from a registered nutritionist. 

  1. Ice water your face. This activates something called the ‘diver’s reflex, distracting you from your symptoms and giving you a rush of endorphins. Feel free to have a cold shower too if you are brave enough…
  2. We deplete our bodies of a lot of key nutrients when we drink. Alcohol actually inhibits the absorption and usage of nutrients such as vitamin B1,vitamin B12, folic acid, and zinc. Give your nutrient stores an all important top up to help my body recover, by adding a teaspoon of FS-Greens to a cold glass of iced water with lemon. Plus, thanks to the active Ashwadandha in the blend too, it should help to ease your  ‘hangxiety’ too. 
  3. HEALTHY COMFORT FOOD. Em’s  hangover-busting bagels are known in her household for healing all sins. A balance of the food you crave, but with all the key vitamins and minerals we need to feel better and help get us through the day. It’s important to nourish your body with the key b vitamins, potassium, sodium and fibre.

Here’s the recipe: 

Create a chicken sausage burger patty using Heck’s Chicken Sausages and place in the airfryer to cook. 

Wilt a handful of spinach in a frying pan and whip up an avocado smash using ripe avocados, chopped fresh tomatoes, chilli, salt, pepper, lime and olive oil. 

Toast a seed bagel under the grill, topped with cheddar to melt. 

Finally build your bagel by loading the smash and spinach on top of your cheese, followed by the patty and top with a fried egg. 

Devour and enjoy.

  1. Hydrate and move. Drink 250ml water every 30 minutes in the morning then make sure you find time for a long walk, bike ride or run, for fresh air and all important movement.
