10 Easy Wellness Hacks for the Festive Period

10 Easy Wellness Hacks for the Festive Period

As we approach the festive season, and our diaries start filling up with events, it’s hard to find balance amongst the celebrations. We know how easy it is to say yes to every invitation that comes your way, but it’s also important we find time for ourselves and not let go of the daily habits that help us feel our best!

It's essential to prioritise some mindfulness to maintain our well-being. Here are a few straightforward, achievable strategies for staying at your peak.

1. Prioritise Hydration

While water may not be the most exciting guest at the party, it's certainly the most important. Keep a bottle of water at hand. This will not only keep you hydrated but also satisfy your taste buds.

2. Mindful Eating

When building your festive plate take a moment to look at the options. If you can fill half of your plate with vegetables, a quarter with good-quality proteins, and the remainder with complex carbohydrates. Eating slowly and savouring each bite will help you enjoy your meal and recognise when you are full. Savour your food, eating mindfully can enhance satiety and digestion. It’s also important to try not to let any meal cause guilt, letting your body relax and enjoy the food it wants is key to finding balance during the festive season too.

3. Incorporate Activity

Who says staying active can't be fun? Dance around to your favourite festive tunes, take a brisk walk to see the neighbourhood lights, or join a seasonal yoga class. Aim for at least 30 minutes of activity a day to boost your mood.

4. Daily Mindfulness

The holiday hustle can be overwhelming. Dedicate 5 minutes twice a day for some peaceful reflection or deep breathing. This 'you-time' can reduce stress levels, improve mental clarity, and keep you grounded.

5. Quality Sleep

Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep. If the holiday excitement makes winding down difficult, establish a bedtime ritual with calming teas and disconnecting from digital devices an hour before bed

6. Gratitude Practice

Keep a gratitude journal by your bedside. Each night, jot down three things you were grateful for that day. This practice can enhance your emotional well-being and remind you of the season's true gifts.

7. Thoughtful Socialising

Prioritise your social engagements. Choose events that genuinely bring you joy rather than obligation. When you attend parties, engage in meaningful conversations. This depth of connection can be incredibly nourishing for your soul.

8. Savour the Season

Allow yourself to indulge in your festive favourites without guilt. Enjoy the gingerbread cookie, mince pies and Christmas selection boxes and remember, it's about balance, not deprivation.

9. Make time for yourself

We make lots of plans with friends and family over the festive period, but it's important to plan in time for yourself. Go on a solo cinema date, schedule a self-care day or book in a day of sitting on the sofa watching your favourite Christmas movies. We all need time to rest and recharge our batteries!

10. Reflective Planning

Take a moment to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the new one. What wellness goals did you achieve? What do you aspire to in the coming year? Free Soul is here to support you every step of the way.
